International Women’s Day
Vertec celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. To mark the occasion, we’re shining a spotlight on one of our colleagues at Vertec.
Jo Durant – Design Manager shares her journey with Vertec so far.
“I joined Vertec in 2022 as a Design Manager after more than 30 years working in construction design. I began my career as a trainee draughtsperson and progressed into Design Management as my experience developed across a wide range of roofing, facade and cladding projects. Along the way, I also ran my own subcontract design company for 12 years, providing bespoke design services to cladding contractors and delivering practical, buildable solutions across numerous projects.
Today I’m Head of Design at Vertec, leading an expanding in-house team of twelve Design Managers and designers, supported by external consultants. Our design team supports projects across new build, refurbishment and fire remediation, ensuring that design coordination, compliance and buildability are considered from the earliest stages of every project. Over the past year, we have also implemented BIM and developed in-house Revit capability, delivering Vertec’s first fully coordinated BIM projects and enabling us to provide a fully integrated digital design solution.
Vertec is a forward-thinking business that embraces innovative ideas and collaborative working. My focus is on building a strong and capable design team, developing practical and compliant solutions, and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently from concept through to construction.
Vertec is also committed to investing in its people and supporting professional development. As part of this, the company is currently sponsoring my master’s degree in Facade Engineering, further strengthening the technical expertise within our design team.”
